Tauhara North No.2 Trust was founded on its whakapapa, whenua, and whānau connections. As kaitiaki for the whenua we have developed the geothermal resources with the whakataukī to hold fast to the land and make use of our land for the wellbeing of ngā uri whakatipuranga. Since 1991 when the Trust was formed, the investment diversification for the trust has grown to include farming, horticulture, geothermal energy and tourism.

Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Rangatahi Support Worker at Tauhara North No.2 Trust who will play a vital role in supporting our rangatahi with higher needs during their camp experience with us. This position is centered around empowering rangatahi to achieve their personal goals whilst supporting them through any challenges they may face during their stay with us.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing one-on-one or small group support for rangatahi with higher needs
  • Helping them safely in activities, meals, transitions and downtime
  • Supporting social participation and general wellbeing
  • Communicating with the Team Leaders and Health & Safety Officer about any concerns
  • Assisting with group activities when needed and adapting approaches for accessibility
  • Being observant, responsive and respectful to the unique needs of our rangatahi
  • Help create a calm, inclusive and mana-enhancing environment
  • Available for the entire camp period

Required skills:

  • Strong leadership and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently
  • Comfortable working alongside neurodivergent rangatahi with behavioural and emotional needs
  • Confident in following plans or routines and creating flexible plans if necessary
  • Able to adapt to the kaupapa, tikanga and flow associated with our camp programmes

Required experiences:

  • Experience collaborating with schools, social services or other organizations that support rangatahi
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with children and young people in an outdoor setting is beneficial
  • Background in outdoor education, youth work, or related fields is advantageous
  • Experience in risk management and ensuring participant safety during activities
  • Experience in disability support or similar roles is preferable
